Joyce A. Wetzel

WELLSVILLE — Joyce A. Wetzel, 82, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Lancia Villa Royale Assisted Living Center in Steubenville.

She was born February 28, 1938, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Lawrence Jackson and the late Wilma June (Hall) Barnes and Harry G. Barnes, who raised Joyce. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Boyce; two sons: Jack C. Wetzel, Jr. and Jim Boyce; her ex-husband and best friend, Jack C. Wetzel, Sr.; three sisters: Robin Barnes, Donna Powell, and Sondra Mumaw; two brothers: Calvin and William Jackson; and one granddaughter, Jenny Boyce.

Joyce had been employed for twenty years as a bartender at the Wellsville Eagles Aerie 772, where she was also a member. She was a member of the Wellsville VFW Post 5647 as well. Joyce loved to walk all around Wellsville and enjoyed stopping to talk with her many friends along her routes. She never met a stranger.

Survivors include one daughter, Crystal (David) Gamble of Wellsville; one son, Michael John (Gerri) Wetzel of East Liverpool; two sisters: Terry (Tony) Owens of Wellsville and Pamela Bauer of East Liverpool; one brother, Harry G. Barnes, Jr., of Fla.; one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Jackson; and one brother-in-law, David Mumaw. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

According to Joyce’s wishes, no services were held.

Burial was in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville was entrusted with Joyce’s arrangements.
