Barbara J. Mattern

WELLSVILLE – Barbara J. Mattern, 93, of Campground Road, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at 8:22 a.m. at her residence following a brief illness.

Born March 18, 1927 in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Dale and Margaret Whitney Bolton. A lifetime area resident, she was a retired waitress working over the years for Cindy’s Restaurant, the Blue Willows and Daisey’s. At one time she worked at the Homer Laughlin China Company. She was a member of the VFW Post #66 Ladies Auxiliary and the Friendly Circle Club.

Her husband, Robert O. “Buddy” Mattern, whom she married August 31, 1946, survives at home. There are four daughters, Barbara Shenton of Uniontown, Ohio, Penny Hiller and her husband, Cliff of Boardman, Ohio, Linda Merriman of Calcutta, Ohio and Diana Pastorius and her husband, Norman of Glen Dale, West Virginia; and one son, Robert O. Mattern, Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Wilson, North Carolina.

She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.

In addition, she also leaves behind two sisters, Tiny Milano and Vivian Mautz; and one brother, Ronald Bolton.

Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Shenton; three sisters Betty Mattern, Patsy Allen and Ellen Wilson; and four brothers, Bernard Bolton, Bucky Bolton, Louis Bolton and Thomas Bolton.

A private family service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home with Will Montgomery of the St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ officiating.

Burial was in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
