SALINEVILLE — Saundra Colleen Cassidy Polen, 80, passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. She was at her home in Salineville, Ohio, and was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Saundra was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born in Akron on Jan. 29, 1939, Saundra was the daughter of the late Charles and Cleda (Graubner) Cassidy. She moved with her parents to Salineville from Cleveland when she was 10-years old and spent the remainder of her life in the area, progressing through Salineville schools.

Saundra married Albert “Gene” Polen, the love of her life, on May 4, 1959. Together they enjoyed camping, dancing, volunteering, good friends and family, and raising their four boys. Saundra doted on her children and grandchildren, always taking the time to volunteer at their schools, attend their sporting events and concerts, bake their favorite desserts, or host a fun sleepover.

In addition, Saundra worked at the Columbiana County Joint Vocational School, retiring after 20 years. She was also a member of the Salineville United Methodist Church.

Saundra is survived by her husband, Gene Polen; their four sons, Stephen (Chris) Polen of St. Clairsville; Todd (Beth) Polen of Canton; Brent (Jennifer) Polen of Salem; Kent (Charmayne) Polen of Canfield; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Logan) Dobrovich, Eric (Abby) Polen, Cassidy Polen, Tessa Polen, Ella Polen, Jarrod Polen, Maya Polen, Lily Polen; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Rylan Dobrovich.

Besides her parents, Saundra was preceded in death by an infant son.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday, Nov. 18 at Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home, 36 Main Street, Salineville, Ohio.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Salineville.

The family also wishes to extend a thank you to special friend Patty Youree who cared for Saundra during her illness.
