Mahoning County coverage

Comes after Vindicator announces end of publication Aug. 31

WARREN — A daily Mahoning County edition of the Tribune Chronicle will be published beginning in September, Publisher Charles R. Jarvis announced Monday.

“We are aggressively moving ahead with planning to attempt to fill the void of daily newspaper coverage for Mahoning County after Sept. 1,” Jarvis said.

The move is a result of The Vindicator’s announcement last month it would cease publishing Aug. 31 after being Mahoning County’s newspaper for more than 150 years.

“The Tribune Chronicle will bring back its Mahoning County edition to cover news, sports and events. We are adding resources to enhance our coverage of the region,” Jarvis said.

“We will seek community partnerships to provide additional content to project the voice of Mahoning County,” he said.

Jarvis added a more comprehensive Sunday edition will contain many of the popular features that Vindicator readers have enjoyed for years.

Obituaries placed by Mahoning County funeral homes will be published on a daily basis.

“We feel very strongly that no community — especially one as large as Youngstown — should go without a daily newspaper, so we are pleased to be able to fill the void and look forward to providing good coverage of Mahoning County news and sports,” said Editor Brenda J. Linert.

The Tribune is a sister Ogden newspaper to the Review

In addition, distribution of the Tribune Chronicle will be improved in Mahoning County.

The Mahoning County edition will be available at most locations where The Vindicator has been sold, said Ted Snyder, general manager of the Tribune Chronicle.

“We will accept home delivery subscribers on all of our current routes in Mahoning County and add routes based on demand,” Snyder said.

All Vindicator subscribers who live in Trumbull County can be added to current Tribune Chronicle routes, and they will have the option to receive the Mahoning edition.

Vindicator subscribers are urged to call the Tribune Chronicle’s circulation department at 330-841-1702 to express their interest in receiving home delivery of the Mahoning County edition.

The Tribune Chronicle is the successor publication of several newspapers dating back 207 years to the first edition of The Trump of Fame, which was first published in Warren on June 9, 1812.

“We look forward to continue publishing award-winning newspapers into the future for the Mahoning Valley,” Jarvis said.
