LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Rita Caroline Wehner, age 98, of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away on April 20, 2019.

Born in Chester, W.Va. on Aug. 29, 1920, to the late Edith and Lester Wehner, Rita was the eldest of five daughters. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and was a member of the class of 1938 at Chester High School. Rita attended West Liberty College and Edison College earning a B.A. in Education. After teaching for five years, Rita began a 37 year career with American Airlines working as a vacation consultant in the airline’s offices in Downtown Cleveland. After her retirement, Rita pursued her love of travel, often traveling with her sister, Charlotte. She traveled to 70 different countries during her career and retirement. Rita volunteered for the Cleveland Visitors’ Bureau and was a founding member of the St. Luke Parish Resurrection Choir. She played golf and tennis, held season tickets to Friday evening concerts of the Cleveland Orchestra for many years, and was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

Rita was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Ziskovsky.

She is survived by her sisters, Charlotte A. Wehner, Dorothy (Janie) Proctor (Robert, deceased), and Joanne C. Six (Norman) along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26 from 4-8p.m. at the McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home of Lakewood, 14133 Detroit Ave., Lakewood.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. at Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1212 Bunts Rd., Lakewood.

Family and friends are invited to a reception immediately following the Mass, in McBride Hall at the parish. Interment will take place at a later date in Chester, W.Va.
