HOOKSTOWN — James C. Scott, 69, of Hookstown passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at his home.

Born July 30, 1949, he was a son of the late Robert L. Scott and Irene E. Scott Short.

Jim was a graduate of Monaca High School Class of 1967 and was a member of the high school’s reunion committee.

Jim was first employed with St. Joe Lead Company in Potter Township and later with Westinghouse Instrument Service Company and finished his career with almost 30 years at Beaver Valley Power Station.

Jim’s second home was the Hookstown Grange 1980 and the Hookstown Fairgrounds. Jim and his wife, Jill joined the grange in 1996 and soon immersed themselves in the organization. The couple joined the Pomona Grange 66 in July of 1997 and got their Sixth Degree in October of 1998. They received their Seventh degree in Greenville, N.C. that same year. Jim was elected to the Hookstown Grange Executive Committee in 1997 and Chairman of the Hookstown Fair Board in 2005, both positions which he currently held. On the county level, Jim was recently elected as Master of the Beaver Pomona Grange and serves on the Executive Committee. He previously served on the Finance Committee, as Steward and Past Master. With this position, he was also involved with the Big Knob Fair. On the state level, Jim served on the Good of the Order Committee, both as a member and chairperson. For his dedication, local involvement and lifetime membership, Jim recently received the 2018 Pennsylvania State Granger of the Year Award.

Besides the Grange, Jim and Jill enjoyed being a member of the Corvettes of Pennsylvania since January of 1997, where Jim served as the club’s secretary for six years. Since his retirement, Jim and Jill were constantly booking cruises and had just returned from their 18th cruise on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

Jim leaves his wife of 35 years and high school sweetheart, Jill Vogt Scott; a son, Larry and his wife, Julianne Reese of Columbus, Ind.; a grandson, Richard Reese of Rochester; and three great-granddaughters, Miley, Alexis and Payton Reese of Rochester. He also leaves four siblings, Robert Scott of Norco, Calif.; Sandra (Ken) Knapp or Orlando, Fla.; Linda Pettinicchi of Pittsburgh and Barbara (Dennis) Mike of Chippewa; two sisters-in-law, Sandy (Rich) Milliron in Georgia and Susan Kelly of Monaca; several nieces and nephews; two God children, Abby and Elio Souffrant; best friends, Brian and Dolly Souffrant and numerous Grange and Fair friends.

Friends will be received on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca where a Grange service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Wilmer Olszewski, officiating.
