Grand Jury

LISBON — A Canton woman was served Monday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for drug counts.

Sarah Ann Updyke, 45, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, a second-degree felony, and fifth-degree felonies of aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools, with specifications for forfeiture of money from a drug case for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell methamphetamine in the vicinity of Heartland Christian School in Columbiana on Dec. 28, 2023 and possessing $43 and a cell phone. The amount of methamphetamine was equal or greater than bulk but less than five times bulk.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set May 19 for Jimmy Anderson, 34, state Route 558, Salem, charged with fourth-degree felony menacing by stalking. According to a police affidavit, on May 11, Anderson allegedly violated a protection order at a Leetonia home and allegedly keeps stalking the family after being told by the court to stay away. The affidavit said he has been charged in the past with protection order violations, trespassing and resisting arrest and allegedly said no amount of jail time will keep him away.

A pretrial was set May 22 for Ronald L. Grey, 42, Lincoln Street, Calcutta, charged with assault for allegedly punching a man, with a fight ensuing on the ground, on May 12 in St. Clair Township. The affidavit said the other man had allegedly flipped him off after pulling into the driveway next to his to turn around. After a review of video of the incident, it was determined that Grey was the aggressor of the altercation.

David Scheufele, 41, and Susan Scheufele, 45, both East Clark Street, East Palestine, were each fined $300 and given suspended 180-day jail terms for endangering children. They were both ordered to complete 20 hours community service and parenting classes. The Scheufeles were accused of leaving a 4-year-old child home alone on Nov. 3, 2024 while they were shopping at Walmart in Chippewa, Pa.. claiming the neighbor had agreed to check on the child, but the neighbor said there was no agreement. They also tried to claim that Ohio law did not specify age for leaving a child unattended.

Matthew Carle, 36, Main Street, Homeworth, was fined $550 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for physical control amended from operating a vehicle impaired and two counts of failure to control. His driver’s license was suspended for 180 days, with driving privileges granted, and he was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.

Anthony Mitchell, 33, Youngstown, was fined $200 for no license and speeding.

Timothy Lindsay, 53, West Main Street, New Waterford, was fined $150 for reckless operation amended from OVI first offense at the request of the prosecutor.

Angela Walsh, 44, Lacroft Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for driving under suspension and use of unauthorized plate.

A charge of reasonable control against Carolyn Cartwright, 69, West Garfield Road, Columbiana, was dismissed at the cost of the defendant, with the defendant stipulating to probable cause.

Dillon Allen, 32, Birch Road, East Liverpool, was fined $75 for an equipment violation amended from driving under suspension.

James Zimmerman, 30, state Route 7, Columbiana, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.

Kasey Bailey, 40, Holiday Street, East Liverpool, was fined $100 for expired license.

Dillon Jarvis, 26, North Benton, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.
