LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set March 20 for Daniel Scott, 43, Warren, charged with third-degree felony violating a protection order and fourth-degree felonies of domestic violence and strangulation for allegedly grabbing a woman by her neck, squeezing and attempting to pick her up from the couch by her neck during an argument on March 14 in Lisbon.

A pretrial was set June 5 for Robert Altamirano, 35, Hillcrest Road, Wellsville, charge with domestic violence for allegedly threatening a woman and raising his fist and acting like he was going to hit her on March 15 in Yellow Creek Township. He allegedly had a cigarette in his hand and got into her face, moving his hand in a manner that he was going to burn her face with the cigarette

A pretrial was set March 27 for Berice Frederick, 51, Warren, charged with domestic violence and criminal trespass for allegedly grabbing a woman by the neck and slamming her against the wall during a domestic situation on Nov. 2, 2024 in East Liverpool after illegally entering her apartment.

Lonnie Gilbert, 33, Depot Road, Lisbon, was fined $1,250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 135 days suspended and credit for eight days served, leaving a balance of 37 days still to serve in jail for domestic violence, aggravated menacing and violating a temporary protection order. An additional charge of domestic violence was dismissed. He was ordered to complete 80 hours community service and have no contact with the victim. For the protection order violation, he was accused of yelling at a protected person while on speaker phone with someone else on Oct. 28, 2024 in Lisbon. He was also accused of grabbing a woman by the hair and throwing her to the ground on June 5, 2024 in Lisbon and threw a vape at her, threatening her with physical harm if she pressed charges or sought a protection order.

Cori Zook, 45, Youngstown, was fined $100 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for endangering children. She was accused of putting a child at risk due to the living conditions at a Columbiana residence when police responded on Jan. 11 to a hangup 911 call and found an alleged strong odor of animal urine and feces, along with piles of trash, dirty baby diapers, cigarette ashes, rotting food and other items, according to the police affidavit. The affidavit also said appliances seemed inoperable and there were only a few packs of ramen noodles and a few bottles of water and gatorade for food. She was ordered to complete 40 hours community service.

Sonia Reed, 55, Cornell Street, East Liverpool, was fined $250 for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence for throwing tea at another woman and putting her hands on her during a domestic on Dec. 14, 2024 in St. Clair Township.

Chancelor Roosa, 23, Alliance, was fined $550 for leaving the scene and failure to control. He was also sentenced to 60 days in jail for violating his probation for two 2023 cases for theft and domestic violence, with the cases set for review on May 22, the day he’s supposed to report to jail.

Sean McCarthy, 29, Birch Road, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay court costs for theft and obstructing official business for stealing items from the Save-A-Lot store in Columbiana on Nov. 29, 2023 and running from a traffic stop on foot in Liverpool Township on June 11, 2024.

A charge of carrying a concealed weapon against Thomas Gough, 28, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, was dismissed. He was accused of failing to notify law enforcement of his loaded handgun during a traffic stop on Aug 2, 2024 in Lisbon.

A pretrial was set March 24 for David Ours, 55, Wells Hollow Road, Wellsville, charged with criminal damaging or endangering for allegedly driving his vehicle into a fire engine, causing multiple firefighters to jump out of the way and damaging multiple tools at a scene in Madison Township on March 15.

A pretrial was set June 5 for Robert Spatz, 20, East 14th Street, Salem, charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly playing music too loud on March 14 in Salem after being warned multiple times in the past regarding the noise.

A pretrial was set March 24 for Anthony Carosiello, 38, Sherwood Road, Wellsville, charged with disorderly conduct and violation of a protection order for allegedly fighting with another man outside a gas station in Wellsville on Dec. 8, 2024 and for allegedly threatening a woman whose relative had a protection order against him on Dec. 12, 2024.

A pretrial was set March 27 for Gloria Sosack, 37, Peach Aly, East Liverpool, charged with two counts of criminal damaging or endangering for allegedly causing physical harm to another’s property by busting out all of her neighbor’s windows with a hammer and ball bat on March 15 in East Liverpool, also causing damage to the door of a relative’s property.

A pretrial was set May 1 for Amanda Ferrebee, 37, Valleyview Street, East Liverpool, charged with drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing three glass burnt pipes, a clear container with an unknown crystal substance and a plastic baggy containing a crystal-like substance while a passenger in a stopped vehicle on March 8 in St. Clair Township.

Tabatha McLaughlin, 35, Shadylane Drive, East Liverpool, was fined $150 and given a suspended 30-day jail term for drug paraphernalia for possessing two cut straws with white powder residue during a traffic stop on May 10, 2024 in Liverpool Township. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.

Anastasha Blinn, 41, New Castle, Pa., was fined $200 and sentenced to 10 days in jail, with credit for one day served, leaving a balance of nine days to serve in jail for drug paraphernalia and a headlights violation for possessing a pill bottle with suspected drugs during a traffic stop on Nov. 7, 2024 in Columbiana.

Kazon Carter, 25, Youngstown, was fined $200 for drug paraphernalia for possessing digital scales with white residue during a traffic stop on Sept. 7, 2024 when he was a passenger in St. Clair Township.

Shane Murphy, 19, Steubenville Pike Road, Lisbon, was fined $50 for possessing marijuana.

Christina Mills, 40, Canton, was fined $900 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, for operating a vehicle impaired and failure to dim. Her driver’s license was suspended for one year and she was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.

A pretrial was set June 5 for Larry Scott, 44, Alice Street, East Palestine, charged with OVI first offense, OVI breath first offense, driving under suspension, marked lanes and open container.

A status conference hearing was set May 1 and a court trial was set May 5 for William Priester, 65, Hubbard, charged with OVI first offense and reasonable control.

Mary Kiehl, 40, state Route 558, Leetonia, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.

George Rock, 61, Crestview Road, Columbiana, was fined $50 for speeding.

Court News

LISBON — A Canton woman involved in a sex-for-hire case entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor soliciting and fifth-degree felony possessing criminal tools, a lesser included offense, in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Christina Butler, 35, Canton, will face sentencing on June 2.

She was originally charged with promoting prostitution, a fourth-degree felony. A misdemeanor charge of possessing criminal tools will be dismissed.

Butler was accused of posting an ad on a known prostitution website and soliciting sexual conduct from an undercover agent posing as a purchaser of sex for $400, which included gas money. During an undercover phone conversation, she also told the agent she posted an ad on the same website for another woman to solicit sexual conduct from him, then traveled to Salem on Sept. 14, 2024 for the meeting.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— David G. Mercer, 55, Berlin Center, pleaded guilty to charges from two separate indictments, including fifth-degree felony misuse of credit cards from 2002 and fifth-degree felony failure to verify address from 2021. Sentencing was set for May 23. Mercer was accused of using a woman’s credit card in a continuing course of criminal conduct from June 25, 2002 to June 30, 2002 and failing to verify his address on Dec. 12, 2021 as required since he’s a registered sex offender.

Grand Jury

LISBON — Schon Scott, 59, Canton, was served recently with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing cocaine on Dec. 1, 2024.
