Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies were dispatched at 11:03 p.m. Saturday to Fireside Lake Campground, Rochester Road, West Township, for a missing juvenile. North Georgetown and Hanover Township fire departments were also enroute to assist. While deputies were on the way, dispatch advised the juvenile was located and was fine.
— Deputies responded at 9:02 p.m. Saturday to state Route 45, Center Township for a medical call. EMT Ambulance transported the person to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
— A North Carolina woman at 4:43 p.m. Saturday reported a custody issue with her daughter’s half-sister, state Route 170, Middleton Township. She was told to contact an attorney.
— A man on Fredericktown Clarkson Road, Middleton Township, reported at 4:30 p.m. Saturday that a male was calling him claiming to be a representative from his bank. When he called the after-hours number for the bank, he was advised it was a scam.
— A deputy was dispatched at 5:14 p.m. Friday to Family Dollar, state Route 172, Hanover Township, for a medical call. Hanover Township and Winona EMS were on the scene. Hanover Township EMS transported the person to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
— EMT Ambulance called at 1:25 a.m. Friday for a deputy to assist with a medical call due to the address not being able to be found on Eagleton Road, Center Township. A deputy located the residence and assisted the crew with making contact with the victim but all doors and windows were secured. A neighbor contacted turned out to be a relative who had a key and gave access to first responders. The victim was assisted, but refused medical transport.
— An alarm drop was reported at 12:04 a.m. Friday at Winona Frozen Food, Whinnery Road, Butler Township, with all windows and doors secure.
— University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland at 3:54 p.m. Aug. 29 requested a deputy make contact with a resident on Kevin Drive, Knox Township, regarding a patient at their facility. A deputy made contact with the person.
— Deputies responded at 6:39 a.m. Aug. 29 to the area of Lewis Road and Smith Road in Franklin Township for cattle on the roadway. Deputies were advised that Carroll County Sheriff’s Office had received a call about a vehicle crashing into cow. Deputies located a cow and a calf on Lewis Road and were able to secure them into a fenced-in field. The cow appeared to have been injured. Deputies located the vehicle and the operator who struck the cow and the Ohio State Highway Patrol handled the crash. The owner of the cows was also notified. The report said it was reported the owner was having trouble with persons opening their fences at night. The workers believed it was a protest of the solar fields which have been a topic of concern for many persons in the area, the report said.
— A deputy responded at 2:53 a.m. Aug. 29 to Dunn Road, Madison Township for a domestic violence report, with a Liverpool Township police officer and two St. Clair Township police officers responding for assistance. The victim said a man assaulted her by pushing her to the bed and putting his hands around her neck, holding her down and pushing her into the floor where she landed on broken glass and further shoving her out the door of the camper they were inside. The suspect was located hiding inside a garage on the property passed out. Joseph Jolly, 38, Dunn Road, was charged with fourth-degree felony domestic violence due to a prior conviction and fifth-degree felony strangulation. He is facing a preliminary hearing Thursday in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
— A caller at 1:44 a.m. Aug. 29 reported hearing someone in the woods on Roberts Road, Fairfield Township. A deputy checked the area, but was unable to locate anyone.
— A woman on Salem Alliance Road, Butler Township, reported at 11:24 p.m. Aug. 28 that her 8-year-old son was being unruly.
Highway Patrol
— Andrew Steves, of Plymouth Place in Salem, was cited at 1:53 p.m. Aug. 24 for reasonable control after he was driving his motorcycle west on state Route 558 and failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and went off the right side of the road in Salem Township.
— Paul Smith, of Beaver Falls, Pa., was cited at 10:35 p.m. Aug. 24 for failure to yield the right of way when turning left after he attempted a left turn onto Salem Grange Road and was struck by Earl Creamer, of Leetonia Road in Leetonia, in Salem Township.
— An unidentified silver sedan was involved in a single-vehicle property damage crash at 7 a.m. Aug. 30 in Yellow Creek Township. The sedan was traveling southeast on state Route 39, traveled off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and guy wire before fleeing the scene.
— Bethany Vollnogle, of Bacon Avenue in East Palestine, was cited at 6:24 p.m. Aug. 27 in Salem Township for reasonable control after she was operating her vehicle north on state Route 558, when she went left of center and off of the left side of road before re-entering the roadway and flipping her vehicle that went off the right side of the road, hit an embarkment, overturning and catching fire. She was transported to St. Elizabeth’s for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 1:52 a.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. Officers learned an engaged couple was having an argument over a relationship issue. The male party chose to leave to alleviate the situation.
— Officers responded to the area of North Howard Avenue and West Seventh Street at 12:13 a.m. Sunday for a report of an injured woman in the roadway. Officers located the woman and found her to be intoxicated. It was discovered the woman had been in a verbal altercation with a man known to her that. When the man left in his vehicle, she had chased him and fell sustaining a minor injury. Further investigation showed the woman has a protection order against the man, and upon contacting him the man admitted to contacting the woman. The man, Randall Fegert, 60, Salem was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charges with violating a protection order. The woman was treated for injuries by EMS and transported to the emergency room for further evaluation.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Pershing Street at 5:11 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised the woman appeared to be very confused walking around. Officers discovered the woman suffers from memory issues and were able to locate family and the woman was returned to their care.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 4:39 p.m. Saturday for a report of harassment. The caller advised his ex keeps contacting him despite being advised to stop. Officers will contact the woman and advised her of the complaint, and that possible charges could follow if her actions continued.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Ninth Street at 4:11 p.m. Saturday for a reported verbal dispute. Officers spoke with both parties who advised the incident was verbal in nature only. The female half advised that she was going for a walk to cool down.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 3:51 p.m. Saturday to assist the Leetonia Police Department with a traffic crash investigation. Officers stood by until the investigation was completed.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fourth Street at 1:36 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator report. The caller advised that every morning around 7:30 a.m. two vehicles are driving at a high rate of speed and driving left of center. Officers advised the caller that there would be an extra watch in the area around the time given.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:05 p.m. Saturday for a report of a man urinating off his front porch. Officers spoke with the man, advising him of the complaint and possible charges if his actions continue.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:55 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller, who lives in Florida advised that she hadn’t contacted the person for a while despite text messaging them and requested officers check on her. Officers spoke with the woman who advised everything was okay and nothing was needed.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of North Cunningham Road at 10:45 a.m. Saturday for a report of a person to be removed. When officers arrived, they found that the person in question was leaving. Officers spoke with the person and sent them on their way.
— Officers responded to a business in the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 10:05 a.m. Saturday for report of theft. The caller advised their metal bench was taken from outside the business. Officers were advised of a possible location of where the bench was and officers located the bench there in the bed of a truck. Officers confirmed the bench to be the one reported stolen and returned it to the business. The caller did not wish to pursue charges.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue at 6:17 a.m. Saturday for a reported assault. The caller advised that another man had assaulted him while at a friend’s residence. Officers spoke to a woman at the residence who advised that the man in question left prior to officers’ arrival. The caller along with the woman and a third person at the residence were all intoxicated and were advised to contact officers when they were sober to provide statements, and the caller was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Southeast Boulevard at 12:11 a.m. Saturday for a medical call. The caller advised a woman had taken an unknown amount of prescriptions medication. The woman was transported by EMT to the Salem Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 11:33 p.m. Friday for a reported dispute. The caller advised two men were sitting on the side of the roadway and threw something at her vehicle. Officers spoke with the men who denied the allegations, and nothing was in the roadway to indicate being thrown and no damage was sustained to the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the area of Franklin Avenue and Trimble Street at 9:04 p.m. Friday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that he located a couple of lamps stuffed into the bushes. Officers advised him to just throw them away since they were his bushes. No reports of break-ins or thefts were on file.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 8:06 p.m. Friday for a report of threats being made. Officers spoke with all parties and due to conflicting stories obtained statements and will forward the case to the County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
— Officers responded to the area of Penn Avenue and Columbia Street at 7:37 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised a male juvenile had threatened to punch her juvenile daughter. The caller did not want to pursue charges but wanted officers to speak with the male. Officers spoke with the juvenile in question and advised him of the possible consequences for threatening to hit another individual.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 2:56 p.m. Friday for a wellness check on a man that appeared lost or confused. Officers located the man walking in circles in the front yard of a residence “taking high steps as if trying to ascend a flight of steps that was not there.” Officers observed the mad had blood coming from above the left eye and running down the side of his face. Officers requested first responders and an ambulance, and had the man sit down on the grass to await medical personnel. The man had an apparent laceration to his head and left shoulder that it appeared were sustained in a recent fall. First responders arrived and officer provided traffic control until medical personnel transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 2:34 p.m. Friday requesting to speak with a supervisor. The man advised that he had been cited and arrested the prior evening for OVI and that he was not driving intoxicated but has a medical condition that affects his mobility. Officers subsequently confirmed that the Salem Police Department was not the arresting agency and provided the man with a phone number to contact the arresting agencies dispatch to speak with someone from that agency about the complaint.
— Officers responded to the area of Penn Avenue and Columbia Street at 11:04 a.m. Sunday for a reported one-vehicle accident. The caller advised that one of their drivers from the post office pulled out of the private business drive on Columbia Street and struck a utility pole on the side of the roadway. Officers spoke with the driver who advised that she pulled out of the driveway and the steering wheel became stuck and wouldn’t move, causing the accident. The driver had a minor arm injury and per post office policy was transported to the Salem hospital.
— Officers responded to assisted Perry Township officers with an OVI investigation at the police department at 3:13 a.m. Sunday. Officers assisted until the investigation and paperwork were complete.
