Domestic violence charge against county coroner set for trial next week
LISBON — The domestic violence charge against Columbiana County Coroner Dr. George Wilson remains scheduled for trial next week in County Municipal Court.
Visiting Judge David Stucki met briefly on Wednesday afternoon with Wilson’s defense attorney Charles Amato and visiting Prosecutor Jeffrey Jakmides. Neither side reported having any pretrial motions to file and the case remains unresolved.
A trial directly to the court, not to include a jury, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 23.
Wilson, 50, was charged after Salem police responded to his Jennings Avenue home in December, where a woman claimed he had punched her in the face. Her right eye reportedly had black and blue bruising. The police stated Wilson had denied hitting her, claimed she was lying and both of them were “highly intoxicated” at the time police were there.
The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor, which could garner up to a six-month sentence at the county jail and a $1,000 fine if Wilson is convicted.
