Trustees advise residents that notices of change in electric providers sent in error

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP – The St. Clair Township trustees at their meeting Monday advised residents that the emails they received telling them their electric provider was being switched from Dynegy, the aggragate electric provider the township is contracted with, to another provider were sent in error.

Trustee Robert Swickard said all three trustees had received numerous calls from residents on Monday morning telling them they had received the emails and all three trustees ended up calling Dynegy to find out what was going on.

Swickard noted that some of the residents calling were saying that the other company was listing higher rates while other residents said they were told they would have to wait until next week to find out the rates.

According to Swickard, Dynegy told him that after doing some investigating, they found out the emails were sent in error and that the residents do not have to worry about them and the provider was not changing.

Swickard advised residents to keep an eye on the generation line on their bills for the next couple of months to make sure that it continues to list Dynegy as the electric generator.

Police Chief Brian McKenzie told the trustees that he was interviewing a potential candidate to fill one of the vacant officer spots in the department later in the evening on Monday.

The trustees held an executive session and invited McKenzie for the purpose of discussing personnel matters. No action was taken following the session.

McKenzie said that the department had a busy weekend with multiple accidents.

Road Foreman Scott Barrett said the township’s road crew was ready to handle the snow predicted to come in overnight on Monday. He noted with the snow predicted to start about 1 a.m., crews would begin clearing the roads about 3 a.m. He said it didn’t make any sense for the crew to start treating the roads as soon as the snow starts because any salt or treatment they put down would be plowed up once there was enough snow on the roads to plow. By waiting they could plow and then put treatment on the roadways at the same time.

There was no one present to provide reports from the Glenmoor or St. Clair fire departments.

The trustees adopted resolutions to purchase a perpetual easement for highway and road purposes and to adopt the Columbiana County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Purchase orders totaling $47,362.26; blanket certificates totaling $202.48 and bills totaling $78,806.74 were approved for payment.

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the township government building, 15442 Pugh Road, Calcutta. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 15.

Starting at $2.99/week.
