Trustees approve hiring of part-time police officer

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Trustees gave their approval for Police Chief Jarrod Kinemond’s request to hire a part-time police officer during Tuesday’s meeting of the East Liverpool Township Board of Trustees.

Kinemond told the trustees that he wanted to hire police officer Keith Hildebrand as a part-time officer to help cut down on the cost of overtime.

Hildebrand, a veteran police officer, will start on July 12 with the Liverpool Township Police Department. Even though he is an experienced officer he will still be put on the standard probationary period for the department.

Kinemond also told the trustees that the #1 squad car needed to have the brakes changed and the #7 squad car was sent in for the service on a recall notice received and to have a caliper replaced. The car will need to be sent back in for service to have the other caliper replaced.

Road Foreman Chris Bosworth said that all was good at the road department shop and that the 2006 truck was back from being repaired.

He also said that the department was still mowing and they were on their second round of it and the road crew was keeping up on daily activities.

While Fire Chief Dave Ward was unable to attend the meeting, there was discussion among the trustees about a request to purchase road closed signs for the fire department to keep on their trucks.

Bosworth noted that it would be cost effective because it would save on the overtime cost of the fire department having to call out the road crew to place road closed signs when the fire department needs them.

Trustee Keith Burke said there is a litter pick up scheduled for this weekend and there were 12 bags of litter collected during the last pick up day.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said that she was performing day-to-day activities and working on the June bank reconciliation.

Flati also noted that the nuisance letter sent certified mail to the listed property owner of 1711 Orchard St. was returned from the post office marked unforwardable.

Trustee Mike Bahen said he heard back from the property owner on Campground Road who received a nuisance letter and told him he had 30 days to cut the grass and that if the township had to cut it he would be charged or have the cost put on his property taxes.

Bills in the amount of $39,667.75 were approved for payment.

There was no old or unfinished business and nobody for public speaking.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 22.
