CVFD chief announces receipt of state commendation at trustees meeting

Firefighters from Columbiana County who went to assist with the recovery efforts of Hurricane Helene show their state commendations during Monday’s St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meeting. “In joining in the response to Hurricane Helene, you have set yourself apart as one of Ohio’s finest citizens,” Blasdel said in the commendation. “You have consistently chosen to go above and beyond, putting yourself in harm’s way, all at the service of others.”
Others bedside McCoy who received the commendations include volunteer firefighters Ty Edwards, Liverpool Township; Dalton Simmons, Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department; Assistant Chief Shayne Hamilton, Lt. Randy Schneider, and Wesley Baxter of the CVFD.
St. Clair Township Police Chief Brian McKenzie requested and was granted approval to sell the 2010 Ford Crown Victoria no longer needed by the police department for fair market value of $2,500.
The trustees approved reaffirmation of the memorandum of understanding between the township and the Columbiana County commissioners for an agreement between the township and the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) concerning their availability and response of the police and maintenance departments to an emergency affecting citizens of the county.
Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson noted correspondence from Bert Dawson, Columbiana County engineer, that Calcutta Smith Ferry Road will be closed through Dec. 12 with a detour posted for East Liverpool Road.
Purchase orders totaling $2,181.50 and blanket certificates totaling $6,597 were approved for payment.
The Memorial Day event will take place on May 25, and the township offices will be closed for observance of Memorial Day on May 26.
The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the Township Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June. 2.
