Candlelight vigil to be held for Wellsville student killed riding his bike

WELLSVILLE — A candlelight vigil will be held on Wednesday to honor the 9-year-old Wellsville student killed while riding his bike.

The vigil begins at 7:30 p.m. at Nicholson Stadium, 1806 Danbury St., Wellsville.

Candles will be provided, and anyone wishing to release balloons or lanterns is welcome to bring them.

A service and prayer will be given by Pastor Mark Blakeley, Wellsville First Christian Church.

Monetary donations for the family can be made during the vigil.

The student, who is not being identified other than by his first name, Clayton, was killed on Saturday in Madison Township after being struck by a pick-up truck while riding his bike at the end of a private driveway.

According to media partner WKBN Ohio State Highway Patrol said Clayton was riding his bike when he was hit and killed on state Route 7 at approximately 5:45 p.m.

Daw Elementary is collecting donations for the family at the school and appreciates any contribution no matter how big or small.

The school has also rescheduled the group picture day which was originally scheduled for today.

Additional grief counselors will be at the school to help students and staff with the loss.

The accident remains under investigation. A dispatcher at the Lisbon Post said late Monday night that there was no additional information to be released at this time, due to the accident still being investigated.
