Buckeye Water District receives grant for Asset Management Plan
WELLSVILLE — District Manager Al DeAngelis in his report to the Buckeye Water District (BWD) Board of Trustees during the meeting on Thursday gave updates on work done throughout the district.
DeAngelis said that the district has been informed by Rural Community Assistance Program (RCAP) that they have received a grant to cover the cost of the Asset Management Plan which per Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) the district will implement.
It was noted in the board’s finance meeting on Wednesday that the grant received is an Environmental Finance Center drinking water grant awarded to RCAP through the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Region Five and that in return the BWD Asset Management Plan is being provided by RCAP at no cost to the district. This will qualify in helping the BWD meet regulatory requirements and prepare a capital improvement plan for funding of future projects.
DeAngelis also said that the district completed the inspections of the Oakmont and Irish Ridge tanks and will forward the results to OEPA.
The Columbiana County Engineer’s Office told the district that the Calcutta Smith Ferry Road project will begin within the next two weeks, and the district will have 8-inch line replaced as part of the county project.
DeAngelis also said that the district will be sending its Consumer Confidence Report on the next billing cycle and a copy of the report will be posted on the district’s website.
The distribution crew repaired six leaks and three taps.
DeAngelis noted during project reports that he hopes to have completed plans by next week for the new service and administration building for the board to approve so they can be sent to the USDA.
Also noted in the treasurer’s report from the finance meeting was the district has not received an invoice for the Irish Ridge Tank repair.
The finance committee is doing a price comparison for services from Comcast, SmartWay Communications, and Starlink for internet pricing.
A trench box was purchased with the $10,000 BWC H2Ohio Safety Equipment Grant.
A motion was approved to give board member Paul Bahen as an alternate to sign finance documents if one of the Finance Committee members should not be present since any financial items need the signatures of three authorized board members.
President David Dawson requested DeAngelis to provide a report of all fire hydrants in the district.
There were no resolutions or bid openings and no old business or committee reports.
The Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees typically meets the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m., but with the next meeting falling a federal holiday, the next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 9 a.m. in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St.
