Wellsville police make arrest in juvenile shooting
WELLSVILLE — An arrest has been made in the shooting of a juvenile Sunday night.
E’mory Chiles, 21, of 156 Independence Square, Wellsville, was arrested without incident and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony; inducing panic, a fourth-degree felony; and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
According to Police Chief Ed Wilson Monday, the matter was under investigation and officers were attempting to determine the location of the shooting, whether on 18th Street or Independence or Commerce at the square. He said some of the juveniles were reportedly at the basketball court and the square.
“We haven’t really figured it out,” Wilson said. “Everybody is telling different stories. It’s juveniles and it’s complicated, but we are working on it.”
Wilson said the juvenile was shot in the wrist and was taken to UPCM with non-life-threatening injuries.
He also said that it was about 9:45 or 10 p.m. that officers notified him they received a call of the shooting on 18th and Maple streets.
Wilson noted that it is still unclear what happened, but most of the juveniles involved were up from Steubenville and have relatives in Wellsville.
The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that reports circulating that they responded to the incident are incorrect. It was handled by Wellsville Police Department with no involvement from the sheriff’s office.
Lt. Marsha Eisenhart said Monday night after the arrest of Chiles that more arrests could possibly be made, or additional charges filed as the investigation continues.
