New pretrial scheduled in OVI case
LISBON — A new pretrial has been scheduled May 23 in the operating a vehicle impaired case against Columbiana County Democratic Party Chairman Charley Kidder.
Kidder, 48, of Lisbon, appeared Friday morning for a pretrial before retired Carroll County Judge John Campell, who was assigned by the Ohio Supreme Court as visiting judge since the two Columbiana County Municipal Court judges recused themselves.
Kidder was accompanied by his defense attorney Troy Barnett while the state was represented by attorney Edward Czopur, who was assigned as special prosecutor.
Kidder was charged with OVI second offense and OVI breath second offense after allegedly testing at 0.158 blood alcohol concentration during a breath test after a traffic stop at 10:20 p.m. March 6 on North Market Street in Lisbon near Pine Street.
His driver’s license is under a court-ordered suspension, with Campbell granting driving privileges to Kidder, but with use of an ignition interlock system. Barnett had indicated his different jobs that would need to be included in the driving privileges, including as the party chairman, as a defense attorney and as a board member for the county Board of Elections.
Czopur indicated discussions between the two sides are ongoing.
