Cornell named ELHS Scholar of the Month

East Liverpool High School is recognizing senior Olivia Cornell as the Scholar of the Month, shining a spotlight on her outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and service to the community. Olivia is the daughter of Cassie and David Cornell.

A well-rounded student and a dedicated member of the Potter family, Olivia has immersed herself in a wide range of extracurricular activities throughout her high school career. She has been a vital member of the marching band for five years, serving as a squad leader during her senior year, and participating in concert band, show choir, and theater. Olivia’s leadership extends into clubs such as French Club, Culture Club, Outdoor Adventure Club, Academic Team, Debate, Robotics, Gaming Club, and beyond.

In addition to her contributions on campus, Olivia has spent years actively engaged in her community. She has volunteered with the Toronto Band Boosters, the East Liverpool Community Center Summer Feed Program, and at the Columbiana County Counseling Center. Her commitment to service is further reflected in her eight years in the Caravan program and nine years as a Girl Scout. She also holds a background in Taekwondo.

Academically, Olivia is a standout. A member of the National Honor Society for two years, she has received numerous accolades including the Phineas F. Bresee Award, the Governor’s Merit Scholarship for Ohio, and over $18,000 in renewable merit scholarships from the University of Akron. She has also been accepted into the prestigious Williams Honors College and awarded the Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship.

Olivia plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Akron, where she will continue to apply her passion for problem-solving and innovation.
