Arcwood Environmenal to host annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
EAST LIVERPOOL –Arcwood Environmental, formerly Heritage Thermal, will be hosting its annual city sweep for the collection of hazardous household items on April 26 from 8 a.m.-noon at 1250 St. George St., East Liverpool.
The Heritage Thermal Company has annually held the collection of household hazardous waste for the city since 1997 as a way to commemorate Earth Day and will continue its sustainability efforts under their new name Arcwood Environmental.
According to a press release from Arcwood Environmental, many common household products contain some form or hazardous waste and the products are usually identified by having key words such as warning, caution or danger on them.
“If a container has any of these words, its contents may have ingredients that are corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable,” according to the release. “Right now, these wastes can still be tossed in the trash or flushed down the drain.”
The collection will be held rain or shine.
Residents are advised that before they bring any materials to dispose of, they need to check all containers, making sure lids are tight and make sure all products are labeled.
A driver’s license or ID will be required to dispose of any materials.
All waste must be brought in in original consumer packaging with the exception for used automotive fluids which should be labeled.
All waste should be packed in a sturdy container lined with newspaper or kitty litter. Any leaking containers need to be wrapped in clean plastic and packed in a container with kitty litter. Residents are not to mix different or unknown materials together and should never eat, drink or smoke while handling these materials. Residents are advised to drive carefully to the disposal site with the materials stored in the truck or truck bed.

A limit of up to 20 gallons or 35 pounds of household hazardous waste per vehicle will be accepted.
