New status hearing set for EL teen charged with rape

LISBON — A new status hearing was set for 9 a.m. May 1 for an East Liverpool teen charged with four counts of first-degree felony rape.

Brett Thompson, 19, Dairy Lane, had been scheduled to face a status conference on Thursday, along with a jury trial March 17, but both were continued.

Thompson remains out of jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam reduced the bond to $100,000 from the original bond amount of $250,000 cash or surety.

As part of the bond, Thompson is not permitted to have any contact with the victim.

According to the indictment, Thompson allegedly compelled a woman to submit by force or threat of force to sexual conduct from Oct. 1, 2023 to Oct. 2, 2023, with each count representing a different form of sexual conduct.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant Attorney General William Walton due to a conflict for the county prosecutor’s office. Thompson is being represented by defense attorney Edward Hartwig.

Starting at $2.99/week.
