Liverpool Twp. trustees to evaluate insurance and warranty coverages

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Township Trustee Mike Bahen brought up the topic of the township’s liability insurance and suggested they evaluate their current coverage and see if it was enough or if they needed to increase it during Tuesday’s meeting of the Liverpool Township Board of Trustees.

Bahen noted that considering the recent incident in St. Clair Township, when the trustees went to Columbus to an annual training conference, he took the time to speak with their insurance provider to get an estimate on what it would cost to raise the township’s liability from $3 million to $5 million. Trustee Chair Dennis Giambroni told Bahen to get in writing what the cost increase to the township would be to increase the coverage after Bahen told him he got a verbal quote of an additional $2,472 annually.

Once they receive the quote in writing they will further discuss the issue.

Road Foreman Chris Bosworth said the township has until the end of the month to decide if they want to purchase the extended warranty on the township’s new backhoe.

Bosworth said the extended warranty for six years, which would cover pretty much everything except daily wear and tear items, would cost $8,322. Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said she would need to see if the funds to cover it were available.

Giambroni said the cost of one breakdown would be worth it.

Bosworth noted that since the township is not purchasing any equipment in the near future it might be worth it to ensure the new backhoe was covered.

The trustees tabled making the decision until their next meeting.

Giambroni asked the trustees if they thought it would be worth paying the increase in membership dues to Columbiana Township Association which sent him a notice that the dues which had not increased in some time would increase from $20 a member annually to $100. This would cost the township $400 annually for three trustees and the fiscal officer. The trustees agreed to pay the increased membership cost as they thought the membership is worth it.

Bosworth said he had received multiple complaints from residents on McClaine Road regarding the cell tower being put up and the damage to the road caused by the crane being used. Bosworth said he talked to the owner of the company and a person representing Verizon who assured him they will repair the road to the township’s satisfaction. He wants to know they are aware of the problem and asked them to be patient. He asked the trustees and was granted permission to put up a load limit sign on the road.

Bosworth also said that he and Giambroni went to check out the new plow trucks purchased for the township, and they look good and have been sent out to be outfitted. He said anticipates the trucks being ready for the township to take possession of toward the end of summer.

Flati said she filed the certificate of balance with Columbiana County and asked for the township’s first amended certificate. She noted she was working on year-end reports.

Fire Chief Dave Ward said all the department’s trucks are in service and that it has been quiet lately and hopefully it stays that way.

Police Chief Jarod Kinemond did not have a report to give.

The trustees approved three resolutions to supplement appropriations, for the Road and Bridge fund in the amount of $39,228.24 to Capital Outlay-Machinery line item; the Gasoline Tax Fund in the amount of $17,558.13 to the Principal Payments/Notes line item and for the Motor Vehicle License Tax Fund in the amount of $15,000 to the Principal Payments/Notes line item.

Bills and warrants totaling $135,305.95 were approved for payment.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18.
