Fire destroys Chester home
CHESTER — A late afternoon structure fire destroyed a home on Alley G.
City Fire Chief John Hissam said he believes that the blaze, which destroyed a home owned by Jennifer Myers at 178 Alley G., was started by a plug-in hater in the bedroom.
The Myers’ house was not insured and was located next to a house expecting demolition in the future by the city.
Hissam said he believes the 1500 watt heater pulled too much power, starting the fire.
There were no injuries caused by the fire, he said. However, a woman fell on ice as a result of its accumulation near the scene.
Fire crews had the blaze extinguished after around 35 minutes.
Providing mutual aid were Newell, Lawrenceville and New Cumberland, while Liverpool Township provided backup at Chester’s fire station in case of another call.
Hissam said the house, which was valued at $30,000, was a total loss and no damage estimate for the contents.
