35 will represent CCCTC at the SkillsUSA
LISBON — Thirty-five people will represent the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center at the SkillsUSA Northeast Regional Competition on Friday.
SkillsUSA is a non-profit organization that works to help skilled trade students be prepared to enter the workforce and succeed.
The annual competition is geared toward showcasing Career and Technical Education in Ohio.
The northeast regional competition on Friday takes place at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
The 35 participants will represent the CCCTC in 23 different competitions, CCCTC Public Relations Co-Coordinator Elizabeth Wright said.
She added that the top three placers in each competition at Regionals will qualify to advance to the state SkillsUSA competition in Columbus on March 18 and 19.
The upcoming competition was mentioned during the January CCCTC board of education meeting.
During that meeting, newly hired adult education director Jenna Fox was welcomed. It was her first meeting in the role of education director.
Fox is a graduate of the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and earned her Master’s Degree in Career and Technical Education.
She previously worked at the Kent State Regional Campuses and ETI Technical Institute.
Also during the meeting the board approved the resignation of Assistant Adult Education Director Terry Hudson, effective Feb. 11, as well as the resignation of EMIS Coordinator/Secretary to the the Superintendent Cindy Schmidt, effective June 30, 2025.
According to the CCCTC, Hudson and Schmidt both previously retired and were brought back as retire-rehires.
Their current resignations are for the purpose of entering into full retirement.
The board also approved an administrative contact for Anne Cope who will serve as the adult education program coordinator.
On another matter, CCCTC Superintendent Jeremy Corbisello thanked the board members for their service for 2024 and presented each with a certificate from the Ohio School Boards Association.
He also board member Brian Moore, who represents East Palestine schools, for his service as board president for the 2024 year.
The board approved T.K. Hiscox, who represents Lisbon David Anderson schools, to serve as board president for 2025.
Also elected was Justine Medure, who represents United Local schools, to serve as board vice president for 2025.
The board also recognized Trenton Cable as December Student of the Month.
Cable is a level 1 landscape and environmental design student from Beaver Local High School.
He and 169 of his classmates had zero tardies or absences for the month of December. He was randomly selected from that population through a drawing, CCCTC Public Relations Co-Coordinator Elizabeth Wright said.
