CHESTER ­– Area residents are invited to get out their jingle bells and help Chester rock out for the holidays.

Chester’s Hometown Christmas festivities will take place Saturday, with a morning and afternoon full of activities, culminating in the annual Christmas parade at 3 p.m. This year’s theme is “Jingle Bell Rock.”

The day will kick off at 9 a.m., with the second-annual Jingle Bell Jog, organized through a partnership of the Chester Hometown Christmas Committee and Allen T. Allison Elementary School.

While online registration is finished, those interested may still sign up beginning at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race.

The course will begin and end at Family Kitchen and Smokehouse on Carolina Avenue, with the race following a route along Collins Memorial Drive, looping through the upper end of the city, back to Carolina Avenue onto 3rd Street and California Avenue and then back to the starting point.

Medals will be awarded in a variety of race categories, with prizes also available for the most festive participant.

Throughout the day, street vendors will be set up along Carolina Avenue, with vendor booths also to be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.

Various prize drawings will be held at the Chester Volunteer Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chester City Park will be home to the 4-H Holiday Photo Booth from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., as well as Cookies and Pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon, along with crafts and activities at the park’s main pavilion.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., carriage rides will be available behind the Citizens Drug Store, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Dave Smith Memorial Chili Cookoff will be held at the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire department will sponsor a Kid’s Bingo event, to be held in the bottom of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall at noon, and food will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion.
