ESC recognizes support of two local partners
LISBON — The Columbiana County Educational Service Center (ESC) recognized the support of two of its local partners in November for their support and collaboration with the ESC.
County ESC Superintendent Marie Williams said during the recent board meeting that the Kent State University Salem campus and Ohio State University Extension Office have both been valuable partners and as such, were presented with Outstanding Community Leadership Awards.
According to minutes of the ESC board meeting that were posted online, the awards were given during the Ohio State Boards Association Capital Conference in Columbus on Nov. 11.
According to the meeting minutes, Williams told the board that Kent State was recognized for its ongoing support of ESC programs including the annual STEAM University.
“Kent has graciously provided their campus as a home for this event since starting in 2018,” she said.
Buildings and grounds/maintenance staff members Jeff Christopher and John Stainer were able to attend and accept the award, she added.
She also said that the OSU Extension office was recognized for its commitment to collaboration, resource sharing, and programming that has made an impact on the students, families, and communities served.
Audrey Dimmerling accepted the award on the OSU’s behalf at the awards ceremony.
“The ESC appreciates both for their ongoing support and partnership,” Williams said.
In other matters, Treasurer Lucas Cooper reported to the board that the Lisbon Water Department notified the ESC that its service lines could be made of lead and cautioned not to drink the water until it is tested by the Columbiana County Health Department.
The board then approved the following:
— The resignation of Christina Owens, effective Oct. 24, 2024.
— The resignation of Jennifer McDonough, effective Nov. 1, 2024.
— Several people for classified positions.
— Samantha Catalano for the Wellsville Preschool federal program for the 2024-25 school year.
— John McFarland as substitute teacher for the 2024-25 school year.
— Susan Jackson as speech pathologist for the 2024-25 school year.
— The reassignment of Candace Jack to itinerant preschool teacher.
— A resolution to approve an amendment to a program agreement regarding ACCESS.
— Instructional contracts for the East Liverpool After School Program to Blake Anderson, Sarah Porter, Vanessa Messenger, and Katie Hickman.
— A contract with the ESC of Northeast Ohio to coordinate and facilitate CSTAG (Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines) training.
— A contract with the Columbiana Mental Health and Recovery board to help facilitate training and coaching sessions for CSTAG.
— A contract with Best Life Therapy for speech therapy services.
— Family Medical Leave for Deborah Thomas, beginning Jan. 6.
— Supervisory duties for Sara Bowser at her regular daily rate.
— Stipends to five people for MCHS Science of Reading and to three other people for other services.
The next meeting was set for 5 p.m. Dec. 17.
