Trustees approve purchase of two new trucks
Following an executive session called to discuss the purchase of sale of equipment Tuesday, township trustees voted to approve multiple items for the road department.
Approved were the purchase of two new Peterbuilt dump trucks with plows at an estimated cost of $450,000, paying off the department’s backhoe which has a remaining balance of $85,000 and selling the department’s 2007 plow truck to another township, with trustee Mike Bahen acting as the liaison for the sale.
The cost of the two new trucks is currently an estimate, because the township still has to work out the financing for the purchase, but according to trustee Dennis Giambroni, the final total shouldn’t be too far from the estimate.
During the open portion of the meeting, the trustees approved the replacement of rotors, calipers, universal joints and pads for the road department’s 2004 dump truck at a cost of $3,600 and replacement of pump and rear end on the road department’s tractor at a cost of $8,673.10.
Fire Chief Dave Ward, Liverpool Township VFD, told the trustees that his department has been really busy with the department spending four days last week providing mutual aid for the Malone Road brush fire in Salineville and providing mutual aid for the two arson fires in East Liverpool last Sunday.
Ward said he is proud of his firefighters and the work they have done.
Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati, who was absent and excused from the meeting, submitted her report which noted that she had completed and balanced the October bank reconciliation and the 2025 permanent appropriations.
Giambroni said there could be vacancies on the township’s Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Commission member Jeff Smith is up for reappointment on the Zoning Commission and Board of Appeals member Josh Smith is up for reappointment. Stacy Conley has submitted her resignation for the Zoning Board of Appeals as she is moving out of the area and Zoning Board of Appeals and Zoning Commission members must reside within Liverpool Township.
Giambroni said anyone interested in applying for a position with the Zoning Board of Appeals or the Zoning Commission should contact any of the trustees or the township administration office before Dec. 10.
Bahen noted that two of the properties, 1160 Boyd St. and 1298 Beacon Way, for which Columbiana County received funding for demolition are located in Liverpool Township.
The trustees approved two resolutions to supplement appropriations: for the General Fund in the amount of $350 for telephone line item and the Road and Bridge Fund in the amount of $12,500 for repair and maintenance line item.
Bills totaling $60,910.80 were approved for payment.
The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 26.
