East Liverpool students impress at Skills USA

EAST LIVERPOOL –Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig updated members of the East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education last week regarding training that staff members received during the district’s waiver day.

Teachers received training based on what they requested and what met their needs.

Research is being done for a new curriculum for the fifth-grade students.

Ludwig said that he couldn’t be any more prouder of the students who interviewed with SKILLS USA. They were extremely professional, took it very seriously, dressed appropriately and were polished, professional and ready. The first-place winner and alternate will head to the regional competition and on to state if they win at regionals.

Ludwig noted that he can see the difference these programs can make for the students by allowing them to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Board members unanimously approved the treasurer’s report including the cash summary and cash received report and disbursement and receipt report.

At the treasurer’s request the board members also approved the contract renewal with Jefferson Health Plan and the Westgate Band club account request.

Under personnel matters, the board approved the resignation of MaryAnn Crook, STEM teacher, effective May 30.

They also approved a number of supplemental employees, volunteers, classified substitutes, classified appointments and long-term substitutes for the 2024-2025 school year.

Salary adjustments were approved for Danielle Hendershot at $56,451.66 and Alexis DeJulio at $50,361.84 for master’s degrees

Following an executive session to discuss employee discipline/dismissal regarding a grievance filed by former staff member, the board voted to uphold the decision of termination previously made.

Board member Tamar Cooper told the board that chronic absenteeism has dropped from 43% to 34%.

The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Administration. Due to the Christmas break, the next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 19.
