Wellsville VFD challenges first responders to bring the heat in a chili cook off
WELLSVILLE — The members of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department are challenging all local fire departments and first responders to bring the heat.
Wellsville VFD is hosting a chili cookout where they are challenging all local firefighters, EMTs, medics and law enforcement officers to bring on the heat and take part in a chili cook off to raise funds for the Wellsville VFD cadets and gear. Participants’ first responders will also have the opportunity to raise funds for their own departments as well.
There is no entry fee to participate in the cook off, but there is a $10 per person admission fee which includes chili samples and a chance to vote on one’s favorite chili.
The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and a gun raffle with a firearm provided by Alcatraz.
All participants are required to bring their own chili, table and table decorations. Each participating department can bring their own drinks and desserts to sell, with the profit from those staying with their own departments.
The department with the best overall chili will be named chili cook off champion, have bragging rights for best chili for the year and take possession of the traveling golden axe trophy which will be housed at their department until next year’s chili cookout.
There will also be plaques/smaller trophies presented to those with the spiciest chili, the funniest table and best decorated table.
The cookout due to public request is not limited to first responders. Members of the public are also able to participate.
The cook off will be Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wellsville Fire Department, 1200 Main St.
