John Vennum appointed as new member to Salineville council

SALINEVILLE — Without enough council members available to hold a meeting on their first two regular council meeting nights in 2022, village council finally were able to hold a brief special meeting on Monday.

According to Mayor Linda Adams, council appointed a new member John Vennum, and also reappointed John “Buck” Higgins, whose term had expired when he did not run for re-election. Additionally, council chose Kim Dunlope for a vacant seat on the Board of Public Affairs.

Council also reappointed Andy Beech as village solicitor for 2022.

During this year, council intends to meet at 6 p.m., first and third Mondays as usual, except for Independence Day and Labor Day. Due to those holidays, the meetings those weeks will be held on Tuesday instead.

Finally, council also paid the bills so far in January.

Adams said she wanted to thank the employees for working hard with the recent snows, clearing the streets. She thanked residents for their patience and for moving their vehicles off the streets to help the village workers. Additionally, she said the village would like to thank Washington Township for assisting them on Sunday when both of the village’s trucks broke down for a while.

Adams has donated her salary for the mayor’s position back to the village’s street department to use for equipment.
