NEWELL — The Hancock County Sheriff continues to investigate the robbery of a Newell gas station.

According to Sheriff Scott Gittings, a female cashier at Newell Marathon, which is located in the 200 block of Washington, contacted dispatch shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday to report that a subject had entered the station and demanded that she allegedly empty the register, threatening her with a knife.

The suspect, who is described as a white skinny male of around 5’9″, then exited the building behind the station and fled down an alley.

Gittings did not disclose the amount of cash that the suspect allegedly garnered nor did he provide information about a suspect vehicle.

A still image was grabbed off the store’s surveillance camera footage, which showed the suspect wearing a yellow and black hoodie and what appears to be a black ski mask.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hancock County Sheriff at 304-564-3911 or text the department’s tip line at Tip411.
