Hancock County Commissioners take no action on museum request

New Cumberland, W.Va. — The Hancock County Museum is going to have to continue waiting for new windows.

During Thursday’s regular meeting, county commissioners agreed to table action regarding replacement of its damaged windows, citing the need for more information.

Vivian Weigel and Janet Keller requests financial help for the issue, which is expected to cost between $50,000 and $75,000, according to a quote from R&R Construction Group/Vinci Corp. Weigel did note in her letter of May 26, which was nine days after she secured the quote that the price of wood is rising almost daily.

R&R would replace 21 large double hung leaky windows at $3,550 each and 12 smaller double hung leaky windows at $3,150 per window.

The museum already has a $25,000 Pugliese grant to cover part of the work.

Commissioners also accepted Jo Ellen Kessel’s retirement effective July 1, after four decades with the clerk’s office. She also will be paid her accrued vacation time. Phillip Poling also was hired to fill a vacancy in the clerk’s office.

They also approved reports from the Hancock County Animal Shelter, which also requested the part-time employment of Emily Ault; probates, estates, exoneration orders; general county bills totaling; and all levy fund bills and requisitions for the shelter, library and sheltered workshop as well acc an one-year depository agreement with Wesbanco Bank.

Ergon also directed a letter of appreciation to the Hancock County Office of Emergency Services for its coordinated response for a May 29 fire. “The response was truly impressive and was handled with the highest level of professionalism. ….. To all of you who raced to the scene to help, you have our utmost admiration and appreciation for your courageous and selfless efforts that protected the health and safety of the employees of Ergon-West Virginia Inc. and the surrounding community.”
