Charges pending in stabbing incident
TORONTO — Charges are pending against an East Liverpool man suspected of stabbing a man in Knox Township Monday evening.
John Lyle II will be charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence, Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said.
Lyle, 46, was taken into custody late Monday at an East Liverpool residence.
Sheriff Fred Abdalla said the victim, who has not been identified, was stabbed multiple times. Abdalla said late Tuesday that the victim was listed in serious but stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Abdalla declined to say how many times he had been stabbed, nor would he speculate on a motive.
“That’s what we’re trying to determine,” Abdalla said. “We’ll know more as our investigation continues.”
He said the call came in around 5:45 p.m. Monday. The suspect fled before deputies arrived on scene, “but deputies were able to track down (a location) where he might be in East Liverpool,” the sheriff said.
“We had a lot of help from East Liverpool and St. Clair Township police,” he said. “Once we notified them where he might be, they started surveiling the area, cruising the area — that’s how they found his car, probably a half-mile from where we found him.”
Abdalla said Lyle previously did time in prison for a stabbing in East Liverpool.
