EL man pleads guilty to felonious assault

LISBON — An East Liverpool man involved in a shooting incident during a fight at Chris’ Hideaway Bar on Penn Avenue last year pleaded guilty to felonious assault in Common Pleas Court Thursday.

DaNeil Prentice, 28, Wedgewood Street, East Liverpool, is facing up to 12 years in prison for shooting Joseph Desarro in his rear end on April 20, 2019.

According to a police report at the time, a fight broke out in the men’s bathroom of the establishment. Several men were involved in the fight, which continued on out into the parking lot. There were several shots were fired with one striking Desarro.

Assistant County Prosecutor Ryan Weikart said the prosecutor’s office will seek a two year prison sentence at the time of sentencing.

Under sentencing guidelines that changed a month before the shooting, the charge carries a possible maximum sentence range of eight to 12 years. Sentencing is set for Dec. 18.

When asked by Judge Scott Washam if he was under the influence of anything that would make him unable to comprehend what was happening during the hearing, Prentice admitted he uses marijuana, but no prescribed medications.
