East end structure destroyed by blaze

EAST LIVERPOOL — In the early morning hours, Liverpool Township firefighters battled heavy fog, as they responded to the 2000 block of Dewey Avenue for a structure fire.

According to Fire Chief Dave Ward, the fully involved vacant house was a total loss before they got there.

Dispatchers answered a call regarding 2019 Dewey Avenue around 2:50 a.m. Thursday.

Ward said the three-bedroom, single-bath house, which was owned by Penny and George Davis Jr., was not insured and had no electric.

Glenmoor and Calcutta Volunteer Fire Departments also responded with tankers in addition to the 15 firefighters from Liverpool Township.

Ward said due to the extent of the damage, the state fire marshal was not contacted to investigate.

The two-story structure, which was valued at $16,500 and built in 1900, carried a tax delinquency according to the Columbiana County auditor’s website.
