St. Clair Township approves budget

CALCUTTA — St. Clair Township trustees unanimously approved its $3.5 million budget resolution Monday afternoon during their regular meeting.

The budget was to be adopted and submitted to the Columbiana County auditor’s office by July 20, after a public hearing was held.

According to the resolution, the total budget is $3,428,169.40 and includes $452,634.70 for the general fund.

Safety forces dominate the majority with $1,495,000 for the St. Clair police district and $469,600 generated by a fire levy that the two contracted volunteer departments split.

There also is only $500 in the drug law enforcement fund and $3,624.02 in the federal law enforcement fund.

Other noteworthy items include:

–Motor Vehicle License Tax, $20,000

–Gasoline Tax, $175,000

–Road and bridges, $417,655.49

–Both permissive MVL tax entries for the township, $99,000.

–County permissive MVL tax, $10,000

–Both Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district II and III, $272,197.45

Road Supervisor Scott Barrett announced that 70 percent of the township’s chip and seal program is complete.

Police Chief Brian McKenzie said the number of incidents within the township are back on the rise again, as the state loosens pandemic guidelines. He also discussed possibly taking some COVID-related training detailed in a letter he recently received from the Ohio Association of Police Chiefs.

In other action, trustees paid $92,126.90 worth of bills.
