CAA gets nearly $63K to support health clinics

LISBON — The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County has been awarded a 2020 Coronavirus Supplemental Funding for Health Centers Grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.

Jenna Wonner, COO of CAACC’s Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers, received word of the $62,954 grant on March 24.

The grant provides one-time funding to support preventing, preparing for and responding to COVID-19, and according to HRSA guidelines, the funds may aid patient and community support, screenings, testing and laboratory services, adding providers and other personnel, training, supplies and health information technology.

The grant also may be used for telehealth equipment, and according to Wonner, CAACC’s Behavioral Health program is doing just that by utilizing that method of counseling patients for those who need it.

“We are continuing to provide support, through counseling and medication, during this difficult time. We have begun to use telehealth via phone for those patients who would like to use it,” Wonner said.

All patients have to do is call CAACC’s Behavioral Health Center at 330-386-7870 to schedule an appointment with a counselor or to talk with a medication management provider. That phone is answered 24 hours a day either by staff or an answering service, which will contact the provider on call.

“Some patients may not want to come into an office at this time, so this telehealth service with our counselors and medication management providers offers support to those patients and helps provide some peace of mind,” she said.

HRSA awarded $100 million to 1,381 health centers across the United States, with funding provided by the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020.

Wonner noted the behavioral health offices remain open, as well as CAACC’s medical centers during this time. However, CAACC’s Dental offices are available for emergency situations only, as is state mandated currently.

No walk-in service is being offered at this time due to COVID-19, and patients without an already-scheduled appointment and wanting to see a medical provider should call before coming. The phone number is 330-424-5686.

There are five CAACC Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers: CAA Health and Behavioral Health Center at Lisbon, 7880 Lincole Place; CAA Dental Center at Lisbon, 38722 Saltwell Road; CAA East Liverpool Campus, Building 1, 16480 St. Clair Ave. and Building #2, 16494 St. Clair Ave.; and CAA Medical and Dental Center at Salineville, 103 W. Main St., Melhorn Building.
