Area Briefing

W.Va. — State Senator William Ihlenfeld requested the Department of Transportation, DOT, prioritize the Route 2 project in New Cumberland this year. In a letter dated Jan. 17, Ihlenfeld addressed DOT Secretary Byrd White, asking the state select alternative five A for the Route 2 re-route. Ihlenfeld wrote the public overwhelmingly supported five A, citing the safety and economic benefits of; making the bottleneck go away, keeping heavy truck traffic off the ridge, and opening the northern part of the county to large freight allowing for new industries to locate there. He added the public meeting has been held, the environmental work performed, and the money for the project is on the books.
