Woman struck in Wellsville, driver arrested
WELLSVILLE — A woman is hospitalized after she was struck by an alleged intoxicated driver while she was crossing Commerce Street in Wellsville late Thursday.
During video arraignments in county Municipal Court on Friday, a Dec. 12 preliminary hearing was set for Chad M. Mixter, 43, Hammond Park Drive, Wellsville, charged with aggravated vehicular assault for allegedly hitting the woman, who was walking near 906 Commerce St., at about 10 p.m. Thursday. Additionally, Mixter is facing misdemeanor charges of OVI first offense, expired license, failure to control and aggravated vehicular assault. A pretrial is scheduled for the misdemeanors charges on Dec. 12.
According to court documents, Mixter was unsteady on his feet, had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage and showed other field test signs of being under the influence. Wellsville police transported him to the East Liverpool City police station, where Mixter reportedly was tested and a breathalyzer test registered a .128.
Mixter was transported to the county jail and appears to remain there on a $5,000 cash or surety bond set by the court.
Wellsville police declined to release the woman’s name on Friday evening, but said she was transported following the incident to East Liverpool City Hospital, where she reportedly was doing well. Police declined to release any further details due to the pending investigation.
