East Liverpool Jr/Sr High School honored area veterans at the 5th annual “Thank You for Your Service Breakfast and Program” on Nov. 7. The morning started with a pancake breakfast served by members of the high school National Honor Society and was followed by a program in the auditorium with grades 7-12 in attendance. The veterans were led into the program by the Tri State Burial Group with the presentation of colors. The program was opened with the pledge of allegiance led by NHS president Alexis Danley and the National Anthem by the ELHS choir. Dawn Moore, Principal greeted the students and guests and shared her experience about being the granddaughter, daughter and mother of servicemen. The guest speaker was Mr. Garret Railing who served in the US Air Force and is currently a substitute teacher in the district. He shared how the service prepared him for his future and encouraged the guests and students to be involved in your community. He reminded them that actions speak louder than words. “Give to someone less fortunate by treating your fellow American with kindness and selflessness and without any expectations. You will be thanking every veteran for their service and we will thank you for yours.” The high school band performed a patriotic selection which ended the program. Veterans were thanked by the students in a receiving line following the program. (Submitted photo)
