Legislation passed at EL council
EAST LIVERPOOL — City council members had little to say Monday night, choosing to unanimously approve three ordinances during their regular meeting.
The Rev. Ernest Peachey, one of the city’s at-large council members, was absent from the meeting as were Mayor Ryan Stovall and Safety-Service Director Brian Allen.
A somewhat controversial piece of legislation, which would give wage increases to non-union employees, did pass muster with members, although it did so without raises for the safety-service director and his deputy out of the stormwater utility fund.
Police Chief John Lane and Fire Chief Bill Jones will see increases that will put them 5 percent higher than their second in command under the approved ordinance.
Also impacted are non-union employees in the offices of the mayor, law director, auditor, civil service, community development, water, wastewater and income tax offices.
Revisions also changed the vacation and sick time language.
Council also authorized payment of certain vendors and an agreement with Farmers National Bank to be the city’s depository.
In other action, two council committee meetings were announced Monday. The Licensing and Economic Development committee, which is made up of chairman John Mercer and colleagues Brian Kerr and Scott Barrett, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers to discuss the city’s housing. The Finance Committee, consisting of chairman Fred Rayl and colleagues Kerr and Raymond Perorazio, will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 in council chambers.
