Yellow Creek looks for grant for paving work

WELLSVILLE– The Yellow Creek Trustees are planning to apply for an Ohio Public Works Commission grant. During Tuesday’s meeting trustee Ken Biacco announced he has set up a meeting with the county engineer to discuss the grant application.

During the meeting the trustees passed a cooperation agreement for the 2020 Multi-Highway Paving Program. In the agreement the township named the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office as the lead agency for the project, and offered to pay a minimum 12 percent of their share of the project.

The engineers will complete the application, prepare the bid proposal, award the contract, and inspect the construction. Yellow Creek will pay the engineer’s office back after they receive an invoice for the project.

Columbiana County Chief Deputy Highway Engineer William Helscel said county engineers and the township are working together to get McCormick Run Road paved.

In other business the trustees:

— Announced the Ohio EPA should be removing the excessive number of tires from the Taggart Hill property in October.

— Announced the “welcome to Yellow Creek” signs are done and will be put up on state Routes 39 and 45 soon.

— Announced the township will hold Trick or Treat from from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to on Oct. 31.

— Township resident Ralph Samberson, attend the meeting to ask the trustees why repairs have yet to happen on Nicholson Road.

— Gave South Field Energy permission to install a mobile equipment path on Hibbets Mill Road. South Field Energy representatives John Coleman, project director, and Joseph Gustat, assistant project manager, attended the meeting to explain the path will be gravel with a snow fence on both sides and is for keeping people away from the equipment on the construction site.

— Announced they have received resumes from James Rigby and Noah Allison for the empty trustee seat. The trustees have until Oct. 25 to fill the empty seat.

— Announced they have received bids from Mike Pusateri Excavating Inc. and Ohio-West Virginia Excavating Co. to repair the road slip on Hibbets Mill Road.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m.on Oct 22.
