CALCUTTA –A business hoping to be the area’s big CBD superstore opened its doors in October.

James Mort is owner of CBD Healthy, which will carry a whole slew of CBD and Kratom products at its Calcutta location.

Earlier this summer, Gov. Mike DeWine signed legislation permitting the cultivation of industrial hemp, which is then made into CBD products, ending CBD prohibition in Ohio. The move ended the stigma linking it to marijuana.

Advocates tout CBD as providing the benefits without the high of THC, which is marijuana’s psychoactive ingredient.

In addition to carrying CBD tinctures, beauty products and edibles like gummies, CBD Healthy also will carry Kratom, which is known for its benefits when suffering from opiate withdrawal.

Mort calls Kratom, the coffee plant’s southeastern Asian cousin, as highly sought after for boosting energy, focus and pain management. When taken in low doses, it allegedly manifests itself more like caffeine; but in high doses, it has more of a sedative effect. The substance generally is brewed into a tea or packed into pills and capsules.

The inventory also will include a CBD Healthy house brand, sourced from Oregon; CBD vapor oils, cartridges and concentrates. Most of the products will be “organic and high quality,” he explains, adding that the very popular CBD water also will be on hand.

There also will be an on-site educational lounge, where customers can research the products with guidance from the staff.

In addition to CBD and Kratom, CBD Healthy also will offer an array of wellness, pipes, smoke accessories and miscellaneous glass pieces.

CBD Healthy will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its 16044 state Route 170 location, which is across from the BP station.
