Board members decline coverage plan

NEW CUMBERLAND W.Va–During Hancock County Board of Education meeting the board declined being put on the school districts worker’s compensation coverage plan.

The board of education members would only be covered during school functions, and the members had to vote on whether all or none of them received workers’ compensation coverage. If the board voted yes, the county would pay the premium on the board members.

“It hasn’t been here for the five years that I’ve been on the board,” said Michelle Chappell, the school board president. “Personally, I don’t think it would be county monies I would want to see expended on us.”

The boards unanimous decision to not be covered will not affect the school districts teachers or staff members coverage.

Erie Insurance the districts worker compensation carrier contacted the school district to request updated forms. Every few years the district is asked to update their workers compensation forms.
