Initial recipients of Cleda Marie Fitzjohn Memorial Music Trust scholarships have been announced. Kayla Gilmore of Chester, a 2018 Oak Glen High School graduate who just completed her freshman year at Youngstown State University, and Alex Staub of New Cumberland, a 2019 graduate of Oak Glen High School, received $500 scholarships each to help in their pursuit of music inspired carers and music education studies.

The Cleda Marie Fitzjohn Memorial Music Trust was established in 2017 by her son, John D. Fitzjohn, to honor the life and memory of his mother who loved music and all her life encouraged young children to pursue their interests and improve their skills in music of any type. Trust funds are available to benefit students, between the ages of six to and including twenty-one years of age, who reside in the greater East Liverpool tri-state area that includes the Hancock County School District in West Virginia, the Beaver Local, East Liverpool and Wellsville school districts in Ohio, and students who reside in western Beaver County Pennsylvania in the immediate vicinity of Midland. Types of grant requests that will be considered may include scholarships, music lessons, and the purchase of musical instruments and music scores.
