Area man killed in early morning crash

MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP – Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post are investigating a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:55 a.m. Sunday.

A 2017 Ford F-350 was traveling south on state Route 7, north of milepost 18 in Middleton Township. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, striking a mailbox, sign, ditch, embankment and tree before overturning.

The driver, 23-year-old Hudson R. Thompson of Negley, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his safety belt but was still ejected from the vehicle.

Assisting agencies on the scene were the Negley Fire and EMS and the Ohio Dept. of Transportation.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the death.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers to never drink and rive and to reduce their speed on rural routes.
