Contracts, positions renewed by school board

EAST LIVERPOOL –The Beaver Local school board renewed a number of teacher positions and coaching contracts at this week’s board meeting.

Issued one-year teaching contracts were Erin Barnes Anderson, Maribeth Becker, Hillary Hoppel, Ken Kuzior, Katie Mulholland, Nicholas Sesonsky and Derrick Stickles.

Issued three-year teaching contracts were Lisa Congo, Aimee Little, Mark Emmerling, Erica Miller, Heather Moser, BethAnne Rettos, Allyson Yajko and Alyssa Forsythe.

Contracts were approved for the following classified employees: Melissa Antonio, Denise Fonner, Leanna Nolder and Joe Olesky, bus drivers; and Mike Neville, Amber Sprouse, Kitty Javens and Laura Salyers, custodians.

Three-year contracts were approved for Matt Bostian, buildings and ground manager; Josh Croxall, service manager; and Amie Jordan, transportation secretary.

The following coaching positions were filled at the meeting:

–Varsity Football: Mike McKenzie, head coach; Jess Krulik, Aaron West, Derrick Stickles, Nick Sesonsky and Bill Jones, assistants.

–Middle School football: Mark Cashdollar, Dickie Shilling, Justin Flowers, Zach Weyand.

–Volleyball; Allyson Yajko, varsity assistant; Morgan Newbauer, freshman; Amanda Weyand, middle school.

–Girls soccer; Liz Connor, head coach; Alyssa Culp, assistant.

–Boys soccer; Joe Zirillo, head coach; assistant, Cody Culp.

–Boys golf: Al Pierson.

–Cross country: Jessie Darrah.

–Tennis: Matthew Kidd.

–Varsity cheerleading: Michelle Blair, head advisor.

The board then accepted the retirement of longtime high school English teacher Mary Zirillo, who is stepping down at the end of the school year.

“She’s one of the kindest souls you will ever meet,” said school Superintendent Eric Lowe of Zirillo.

Board member Jerry Barnett agreed, describing her as a “wonderful woman who has taken great care of our kids.”

“She is a great asset and she will be missed,” added board member Greg Eisenhart.

The board accepted the donation of two Rogue Foam Plyo box sets from the Red & White Athletic Association, Lowe said they cost about $1,000 each. These are foam boxes that can be stacked for athletes to jump onto from a standing position as part of their training.

The board also approved contracting with the accounting firm of Julian & Trube to help the district comply with GAAP reporting requirements. The contact is for three years at $5,300 per year.

The board approved the schedule for fall sports teams. The varsity football team’s schedule consists of home games with LaBrae, Kenmore, East Liverpool, Edison Local, Martins Ferry and Liberty, and away games at Minerva, Bellaire, Buckeye Local and Indian Creek.
