Southern to expand preschool program

SALINEVILLE — The Southern Local School District is expanding its preschool program for the next school year.

Superintendent Tom Cunningham said during last week’s board of education meeting the district will offer both half-day and full-day preschool options.

The district currently only offers half-day preschool.

Cunningham said the full-day preschool will be staffed by someone already employed by the district who is certified in special education.

Preschool registration will be held on March 27 and 28 for children who are 4 or 5 years old prior to Aug. 1. A late registration will also be held on May 20 and 21.

In other matters, Cunningham also told the board that the entire junior/senior high school building was sanitized in response to an influx of illness among students and staff.

Every district school bus has also been sanitized.

Cunningham said the cleaning was in addition to the weekly sanitizations the district performs.
