Southern BOE addressed over girls programs
SALINEVILLE — A Southern Local School District parent is disappointed with what she feels is a lack of enthusiasm among the district’s girls programs.
Amanda Mayfield told the board of education on Wednesday she has noticed a lack of enthusiasm among those in charge of girls programs, and would like to see a change.
Mayfield was invited by the board to discuss the matter in executive session at the close of the meeting, and she agreed. No action was taken after the session.
The board has a policy that anyone addressing the board must refrain from using specific names and that matters dealing with district staff will be discussed in executive session.
In other matters, the board approved:
— A leave of absence for Kylee Maple, beginning March 11 and ending May 8. Maple will complete her first session of student teaching.
— Maternity leave for Victoria Nuske, beginning Aug. 19 and ending Oct. 1.
— The proposal from Lewis Lawn Care for landscaping maintenance during the 2019 season at a cost of $630 per cut.
— Teresa Brewer as cafeteria, custodian, and secretarial substitute.
— A service agreement between the district and the Milhoans for removal of the old bleachers.
— The resignation of Jimmy Malone as assistant girls track coach.
— Tabling a motion to approve Jimmy Malone as junior high boys track coach. (District Superintendent Tom Cunningham said Malone was outbid for the position by someone with more seniority.)
— Making an accounting adjustment for $903.36 in the system going from the old to the new state software system.
— The Spanish Club field trip on the Gateway Clipper Cruise on May 7, with a departure time of 3:30 p.m. and a return time of 11 p.m.
— Judith Kelm as substitute bus driver.
The next meeting was set for 6:30 p.m. April 10.
