7 levies raise property taxes

LISBON — Seven of the 23 levies on the Nov. 6 ballot would raise property taxes if approved.

Following is a list of those seven ballot issues:

–Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services is seeking approval of an additional 0.75-mill Children Services levy to generate more funding for its foster care program. The levy would raise taxes by $26 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–The Crestview school board is asking voters to approve a combination 2.43-mill bond issue and 0.5-mill permanent improvement levy that would raises taxes by about $100 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–Elkrun Township trustees are asking voters to approve a new 1-mill road levy that would raises taxes by $35 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–Lisbon village council is asking voters to approve a new 2.4-mill fire levy that would raise taxes by $85 for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–St. Clair Township trustees are asking voters to approve a 3.35-mill replacement police levy that would raises taxes by $79 to $117 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–Wayne Township trustees are asking voters to approve a new 4-mill road levy that would raise taxes by $140 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

–The Sandy Creek Fire District is asking voters to approve a 2-mill fire levy that would raise taxes by $70 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

There are two other tax issues on the ballot, but they involve income taxes. The West Branch school board is asking voters to approve 0.5 percent income tax, while in Washingtonville there is an an issue on the ballot that seeks to repeal the recently enacted 0.5 percent village income tax.

The other 16 levies are renewals, which will not raise taxes. Also included is the cost for the owner of a $100,000 home:

–Beaver Local, 4.7-mill operating levy, $145.

–Center Township, 0.2-mill fire levy, $4.55.

–East Liverpool, 8-mill fire levy, $225.

–East Palestine, 1.5-mill fire levy, $41.

–Franklin Township, 0.9-mill fire levy, $16.

–Homeworth Fire District, 1.5-mill fire levy, $44.

–North Georgetown Fire District, 1.5-mill fire levy, $41.

–Madison Township, 2-mill road levy, $15.

–Madison Township, 0.5-mill road levy, $17.

–Salineville, 2-mill cemetery levy, $58.

–Salineville, 3-mill operating levy, $87.

–Summitville, 1.5-mill fire levy, $52.

–Wellsville, 1-mill cemetery levy, $30.

–Wellsville School District, 2-mill permanent improvement levy, $32.

–Yellow Creek Township, 3-mill fire levy, $67.

–United Local, 3-mill construction or permanent improvements levy, $37.
