Commissioners approve contracts for projects

LISBON — With a pending project for landslide repair on Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road, Columbiana County Commissioners on Wednesday approved the county engineer’s office participating in a $270,000 project.

The landslide repair will include a 75-foot long retaining wall, pavement repairs and any needed right-of-way acquisition. The project is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 15. The money for the project is to come from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Commissioners also approved contracts from recently bid projects each to the lowest bidder:

— Awarded the Carroll/Nature Road Bridge replacement project of McCoy Construction Products Inc. of East Liverpool, for $218,060.

— Awarded the purchase of bridge materials structural steel contract to Youngstown Pipe and Steel, Inc. in the amount of $55,162.

— Awarded the purchase of bridge materials corrugated-steel flooring to U.S. Bridge, Inc. in the amount of $23,464.

Finally, the commissioners had a bid opening on another project to replace a bridge on Old state Route 154. Those bidding the project were Jet Excavating of New Middletown, $517,428; Lockhardt Concrete of Akron, $662,836; Marucci and Gaffney of Youngstown, $484,827; McCoy Construction of East Liverpool, $499,926; and Mike Pusateri Excavating of East Liverpool, $648,696. The bids will be referred to County Engineer Bert Dawson for his recommendation.
